James Spader to Make Broadway Debut in David Mamet's Race

Emmy Award winner James Spader will make his Broadway debut next season in David Mamet’s Race. This world premiere production will begin performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on November 17 and open on December 6, directed by the playwright. No details on the storyline of the play have been revealed.

Spader has won three Emmy Awards for playing lawyer Alan Shore on ABC’s Boston Legal and The Practice. His numerous film credits include Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Secretary, Crash, Wolf, Bob Roberts, Wall Street, Less than Zero, Pretty in Pink and the forthcoming Shorts.

Race will feature scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Paul Tazewell and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.

The play will be produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel & Steve Traxler, the team behind Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, Glengarry Glen Ross and November as well as August: Osage County, Blithe Spirit, Hair, Reasons to be Pretty and Desire Under the Elms.
